No ‘knead’ for applause, they’re baking for a cause
SILVER CREEK — Eight hundred rolls is a lot of bread. Just ask the seniors in teacher Kristen Foley’s Government class at Silver Creek High School who spent four days baking for a cause recently.
Whether it was showing zest and their love for baking, or patience while learning how to knead dough, the upperclassmen all did it to support the local community in the spirit of Black Knight Pride. With the assistance of Family and Career Science teacher Jessica Huff, who donated pantry items such as oil and salt along with the use of her kitchen equipment, as well as the King Arthur Flour Co. which provided flour and yeast via its Bake for Good project, the 12th graders prepared, packaged and delivered the bread to the Silver Creek Food Pantry.
The community service project emphasized life skills, compassion and confidence through accomplishment. The students who worked on the project are: Mark Eggleston, Chelsi Hilliker, Wyatt Irish, Emily Kendall, Cierra LaSurk, Justin Mays, Carter Moore, Gabrielle Myers, Ryan Rocque, Caleb Whitford, Caitlin Taylor, Nikolas Stalker, Dylan Weber, Bryan Berek, Cory Paterson, Tricia Campese, and Alexa Como.
