SALAMANCA — Judd Harris pitched a complete game shutout for Southwestern, giving up just three hits, three walks and striking out eight as the Trojans downed Salamanca 10-0 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 baseball at Veterans Park on Wednesday.

Chase Kartesz provided 4 RBIs for the Southwestern (10-2, 7-2) offense, Harris went 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs and two runs scored, Jameson Walsh hit 2 for 3 with a triple, 3 RBIs and two runs, George Marshall hit an RBI, and Wilson Genareo and Robbie Bellardo scored twice each.

Cory Holleran took the loss for Salamanca after giving up two earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four in five innings of work. Cole Urbanski finished the game for the Warriors.

Salamanca (8-5, 2-5) scattered three hits among Jaxson Ross, Payton Bradley and JT Auman.

GOWANDA TOPS SILVER CREEK

GOWANDA — Three runs in the bottom of the first was all Gowanda needed as Blake Herman pitched a gem going all seven innings in which he gave up just three hits, one earned run, walked two and struck out 12 to beat Silver Creek 5-1 in Division 3 play.

Herman also led the Gowanda (10-1, 9-0) offense going 1 for 2 and scoring a pair of runs, Ben VanNote hit a double and scored, Carter Capozzi ended 1 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored and Madden Lay also collected an RBI.

Silver Creek managed one run in the top of the sixth when John Steinwachs doubled and was driven home by Manny Sanchez. Steinwachs finished 1 for 2, Aiden Piccolo hit a double and Dean League collected the other hit.

Thomas Hogg took the loss for Silver Creek (2-8, 2-7) after five innings of work in which he gave up four earned runs on four hits and five walks while striking out four. Sanchez pitched the final inning.

BULLDOGS ROLL WOLVERINES

BROCTON — Austin McIntyre went 2 for 3 with 4 RBIs as Brocton rolled by Westfield 11-5 in Division 2 action.

Grant Gustafson went 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs, Damion Franklin was 1 for 2 with two runs scored and Michael Garcia walked four times for the Bulldogs (4-4, 4-4).

Gustafson picked up the win throwing five innings and giving up just two hits, three earned runs, walked four and struck out five, while Aiden Gatto came in for relief.

Joel Stein took the loss for Westfield after pitching 3 2/3 innings and giving up three hits, two earned runs and struck out three. Tristen Phillips and Danny Bratton also pitched for the Wolverines (0-6, 0-6).

Westfield’s offense was led by Bratton with a pair of RBIs, Aaron Fuller had an RBI and a double and Chris Vacanti was 1 for 1.

PORTVILLE ROUTS EAGLES

ELLICOTTVILLE — Runs from Cameron Mendell and Emmett Jacobson-Coolidge were not enough as Portville stormed past Ellicottville 12-2 in Division 3.

Ellicottville plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the second, but it was not enough as Portville exploded for four, five and then two in the last three innings to win 12-2 in six innings. Owen Chudy provided the Ellicottville offense with the lone RBI.

Reese Benjamin took the loss on the mound after giving up four earned runs on two hits and 10 walks while striking out four. Chudy and Jacobson-Coolidge also pitched for the Eagles (3-6, 2-6).

Aidan Defazio picked up the win on the mound as he gave up two earned runs on three hits and seven walks while striking out four. Portville (10-0, 9-0) received a double and two RBIs from Ethan Obergfell.

TUESDAY

‘BILLIES TOP DEPEW

DEPEW — Fredonia traveled to the defending state champion Depew Wildcats for a nonleague baseball game on Tuesday and came away with an 11-5 victory.

Depew took its only lead of the game in the bottom of the third when it scored three runs in response to Colin Luce’s RBI bunt that brought Ashton Putney home.

The ‘Billies exploded for eight runs in the third inning when the first eight batters all reached and scored. RBI singles came courtesy of Andrew Cowan, Luca Gullo and Luce, both Bryce Bacher and Putney had RBI walks, Owen Rush hit a sacrifice fly, and both AJ Kinney and Nathan Sercu hit RBI fielder’s choices.

Sercu got the start for Fredonia and went three innings in which he struck out two and allowed two earned runs. Kinney finished the game and allowed just two hits and struck out five, including striking out the side in the bottom of the sixth when Depew managed to load the bases with no outs, keeping the Wildcats off the board in the inning.

The loss was just Depew’s second of the season as they stood at 8-2 after the loss and with a win on Wednesday moved to 9-2 overall.
