Christmas in Angola set for Friday, Saturday

ANGOLA — The Angola Park and Gazebo Committee in cooperation with The Friends of the Village and the Lake Shore Association of Christian Churches will host the annual Christmas tree lighting and carol singing on Friday. The Christmas tree lighting will be held at Angola Commons next to the library at 6:30 p.m., followed by carol singing at the gazebo in Angola’s Centennial Park at 7 p.m.

An instrumental group and vocal students from Lake Shore Senior High School will provide music for the carols. The groups are led by Eric Blodgett and Brittany Nicholas, respectively. Song sheets will be provided at the Gazebo.

Following the singing, all are invited to UpDyke Hall in the First Congregational United Church of Christ on North Main St. for free refreshments. In case of very inclement weather, the carol singing of the evening will be held in the church.

On Saturday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., the Friends of the Village will present their Christmas in the Village at the John T. Waugh School on High Street and throughout the village. The day includes a free, hot breakfast for children, fire truck and horse and wagon rides, a bounce house in the school gym, face painting, air brush tattoos, balloons, basket raffles, a chance to visit with Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus from 9:30 a.m. to noon and various events throughout the village.

There will be more than 30 crafters set up in the auditorium of the school. A special 2:30 p.m. free movie will be shown at the New Angola Theater sponsored by SASi.

There may be a parade of fire trucks following the carol singing — weather permitting.
