Cybersecurity safety talk set for Monday

Parents wonder: How do I know that my child is safe when they’re online? How much screen time is too much? Kids wonder: Why is my mom bugging me so much about Instagram? I know more than my parents do about the internet – why don’t they just leave me alone?

Tracy Mitrano, internet safety expert, will address common concerns that both parents and kids have about internet safety at a presentation at Darwin R. Barker Library, 7 Day St., Fredonia, on Monday, May 20 at 6:30 p.m. Specific issues, including sexting, appropriate use of social networking, guarding against child predators and the dark web will be addressed, and Mitrano will take your questions. Come to learn more about the internet and how to use it with both skepticism and confidence.

From 2001 to 2014, Mitrano was the director of information technology policy at Cornell University, and she consults on matters of internet policy, privacy and security as the principal of Mitrano & Associates. She is the author of the first student user guide to Facebook, “Thoughts on Facebook.”
