Four students die in tragic Allegany County accident
BURNS — Three students from the Dansville Central School district and another teenager have lost their lives after a one-vehicle collision early Saturday.
At approximately 4:32 A.M. Troopers out of Amity and Troop E responded to the incident on County Route 13C in Allegany County. Further investigation revealed that the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee with five occupants traveling east bound on County Route 13C failed to stop for a stop sign at the T-intersection of County Route 13C and County Route 13 traveling through the intersection striking a tree then coming to rest in an earth embankment.
Front seat passenger, Kelsi A. Bird, 16 of Dansville, NY was taken by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital for multiple non-life threatening injuries and was the only person wearing a seat belt during the collision. The operator, Rebecca L. Earner, 16 of Dansville, NY and the other three occupants, Ambra E. Eddleton, 16, Justin D. Carpenter, 14 and Kyrstin L. Wolfanger, 14 all of Dansville, NY, were pronounced at the scene.
Dansville Central School Superintendent Dr. Paul J. Alioto has sent statement out for students and families who are impacted with this tragic loss. Counselors will be at hand to assist in grief sharing, according to the district’s web site.
“We are deeply saddened to share the tragic news that three Dansville High School students lost their lives early Saturday morning in a motor vehicle accident,” the notice said. “A fourth DHS student involved in the accident is reported to be in stable condition at Strong Hospital and is expected to survive. A fifth victim who died was not a DHS student.
“School leaders and counselors will be on hand at DHS on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday to support our students, families and employees.”
New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Collision Reconstruction Unit, the Dansville Central School Superintendent, Canaseraga, Almond, Nunda Fire Companies, Dansville ALS and Hornell ALS assisted in this investigation.
