Area schools land mini-grants

Submitted Photo Cassadaga Valley Central School was among the schools that recently received a mini-grant from the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation.

The Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation announces 15 Service Learning Mini-Grants to five school districts for the 2019-2020 school year. These grants, totaling $7,410, include projects that are artistic, service-oriented, and community inspired. Highlighted is one award that is unique to this year’s program.

Homemade Food for Our Local Homes: Forestville High School students will make homemade baked goods for local food pantries. This program will give students a unique perspective on the vital role of food pantries in our community.

Additional programs approved for the 2019 – 2020 school year include:

¯ Cassadaga Valley Central School — Exercise Your Heart;

¯ Dunkirk City Schools — Middle School Chorus Sound System;

¯ Erie 2 BOCES-LoGuidice Educational Center — Big Buddy, Little Buddy Adopt a Classroom Program, Community Policing, and Career & Technical Education;

¯ Forestville Central School — Service Learning Craft Projects, Proud of our Past … Excited About Our Future, Personalized Plaques for Veterans, Forestville Footlocker Military Care Packages, and A Picture is Worth a 1,000 Words;

¯ Fredonia Central School — Canvas and Cans, Bingo for Books-Family Literacy Night, and Community Garden Project.

The Service Learning Mini-Grant program began in 2013 with a Pilot Program in the Fredonia Central School District. Since 2013, the NCCF has awarded over 90 mini-grants totaling over $40,000. Program funding comes from Community Funds and the yearly Applebee’s Flapjack Breakfast and Basket Raffle Fundraiser. The Service Learning program is open to all northern Chautauqua County middle and high school teachers.
