Thirty years ago — 1990

Construction on the 32-unit senior citizen housing complex, known as Springwood Apartments, is moving along. Located on Spring Street in Westfield, the $1-million plus structure is being developed by Whipple Allen Real Estate of Erie. It is expected to be finished by late September.

Forty years ago — 1980

Lynda Nobles, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Nobles of South Dayton, has been named the valedictorian at Pine Valley Central School for the Class of 1980. She plans to enter Roberts Wesleyan College to study nursing. The salutatorian is Lori LaQuay, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce LaQuay of South Dayton. Lori plans to enter Houghton College in the fall to study science.

Fifty years ago — 1970

Mrs. Marie E. Bemis of Westfield, clerk of the board of supervisors since 1966, has submitted her resignation, effective June 11, and will end 22 years of service with Chautauqua County.
