Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care has received a $75,000 contribution from M&T Bank to it’s Our House Campaign to build a hospice residence in Chautauqua County.

The hospice residence, which will be located adjacent to the Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care administrative offices on Fairmount Avenue, Lakewood, is expected to be operational in 2021. Each year it will provide more than 200 individuals who lack a caregiver, have complex medical conditions or can’t remain at home with a peaceful, dignified resting place in their final days.

“We are very grateful to be awarded this important grant from M&T Bank,” said Shauna Anderson, president and CEO of Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care. “This funding recognizes the vital role that hospices play in supporting the needs of our community, and means we are one giant step closer to reaching our funding goal and making The Star Hospice House a reality.

The Our House Campaign has raised $2.3 million since it began in 2019. The campaign is being guided by Bert and Mary Rappole, campaign co-chairs who have played key roles in the founding and growth of Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care.

“CHPC plays an extremely important role in our health care system by dramatically expanding access to end of life care for older adults and others living with serious illness,” said Kevin Brombacher, M&T Bank senior commercial relationship manager. “With this latest grant, we are helping CHPC continue its momentum and help more of our neighbors find dignity and comfort at their most vulnerable time.”

M&T was founded in 1856 in Western New York state as “Manufacturers and Traders Trust Company.” The hospice residence will be named The Star Hospice House in honor of the generosity of Stanley and Elizabeth Star, long-time residents of Chautauqua County.
