Grant helps Fredonia FD get new air packs

Submitted photo The Fredonia Fire Department has purchased this new breathing equipment with a grant.

On Friday, Nov. 18, the Fredonia Fire Department put its new Scott X3 Pro SCBA air packs into service. The decision to go with this newest technology from Scott was concluded after an in-depth technical review and field evaluation through the joint effort of both career staff and volunteer members.

The acquisition of the 27 units, accompanied by spare cylinders and face-pieces, was possible through an Assistance to Firefighters Grant of $253,000 from FEMA. The teamwork of the volunteer fire companies made this purchase a reality, through the public’s generous donations towards the 5% matching percentage required by the grant.

“Our firefighters put their lives on the line every day. This new respiratory protective equipment will provide them with the level of safety they deserve to keep them safe,” said Fredonia Fire Chief Joshua Myers. “I thank the individuals on the SCBA committee for their dedication as they saw this project from start to finish, resulting in successful award of this grant, saving our taxpayers well over $200,000.”
