Uber traffic stop in Jamestown results in drug bust

JAMESTOWN — Two Jamestown residents face drug charges after a traffic stop at 9:43 p.m. Sunday on Baker Street near Prather Avenue.

Officers report seeing a vehicle commit traffic infractions and pulled the vehicle over. Officers spoke with the operator, who was determined to be an Uber driver transporting two passengers from a residence on the South side of Jamestown. The passengers were identified to be Ackykia A. Jester and Jonathan R. Carlson. Carlson was found to have outstanding warrants out of the Jamestown Police Department and was arrested without incident.

A search of Carlson, according to a police report, revealed multiple items associated with the use of illegal drugs. Officers then conducted a search of the vehicle which led to officers finding 22.8 grams of methamphetamine, 1.2 grams of fentanyl, 1.6 grams of crack cocaine, cutting agents, a digital scale, packaging material, two metal knuckle knives and $313 cash believed to be proceeds of the sale of illegal drugs.

Through investigation it was determined that the items located belonged to Jester. Jester was charged and both Jester and Carlson were taken to the Jamestown City Jail. Jester was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, two counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, three counts of criminally using drug paraphernalia, and two counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Carlson faced no additional charges.

The operator of the vehicle was released with traffic tickets to appear in Jamestown City Court at a later date.
