Town of Hanover board talks code enforcement, cemetery
HANOVER — Silver Creek resident Anna Frederickson reiterated concerns regarding code enforcement in the Village of Silver Creek and the Town of Hanover.
“I want to keep on top of it, because everything has been falling through the cracks here with all of these properties and the way they look,” Frederickson said. She later added, “People don’t take care of their properties anymore and they don’t care about it. Whomever lives next to them, well, too bad.”
Currently, the Hanover Code Enforcement Office handles code enforcement issues in the Village and the Town. The Town receives $1,000 per month from the Village for Code Enforcement services, limited to 10 hours per week. The Town of Hanover issued 25 permits in July – 14 of which were in the Town and 11 in the Village for a total of $2,925 collected by the Town.
In other business, the town approved the payment of $5,000 to Glenwood Cemetery to assist with budgetary expenses of maintaining the grounds, including insurance premiums and utilities.
Additionally, the Town Clerk’s Office collected $862 in revenue during July, with 45 Dog Licenses, 28 State DEC Licenses, 3 Marriage Licenses, and 18 Handicap Tags issued. The Town Justice Court disposed of 163 traffic cases, five Penal Law cases, three Civil Law cases, two Tax Law cases and an Environmental Law case in the month of July for a total of $13,531 collected.
The next meeting of the Hanover Town Board, Monday, Sept. 8, will include a public hearing regarding a broadband internet facility, proposed by Pyramid Network Services, located on Countyline Road in Forestville. The hearing will be held at 7:05 p.m., following the commencement of the meeting. Prior to the meeting, the Town Board will meet to discuss updates to its Comprehensive Plan.
The Town also plans to further discuss a law regarding battery energy storage systems in the Town in the coming weeks. The Town Board enacted a six-month moratorium on any projects related to renewable energy systems within the Town limits following the rejection of a project earlier this year.
The 2026 tentative budget has been prepared by Town Accountant Elmar Kiefer. It is available for viewing in the Town Clerk’s Office.
