Updates given for Fredonia campus projects

The Fredonia Board of Education recently heard updates about two long-term projects — construction work and a restructuring of the middle school.

Middle School Principal Paula Troutman said revamped schedules have been finalized for her students’ classes. She said interviews for teaching positions added in the 2019-20 were ongoing.

Finally, Troutman added, letters to inform families about the changes are being included with middle school students’ report cards.

As for the construction on the Fredonia campus, Superintendent Jeff Sortisio said it was “a little ahead of schedule.”

He said workers are installing a new parking lot near the concession stand for the playing fields. The baseball and softball fields are getting new backstops and fencing.

Demolition of the high school gymnasium bleachers continues, he added, and gymnasium dressing rooms are getting new lockers.

The ongoing paving and construction projects are going to cause some road closures on campus, Sortisio noted. As of June 27, access to the campus will be restricted to the secondary entrance on Lakeview Road, for about a month. After that, the main entrance on Main Street will reopen and the Lakeview Road entrance will then close for about a month for construction.
