Damaged Brocton home to be demolished

BROCTON — The home that caught fire one week ago on Main Street in Brocton is still standing, although it will not be for very long.

At the request of Brocton Mayor Art Miller and the rest of the Village Board, the building is to be demolished as an emergency tear down, code enforcement officer Wendy Spinuzza has deemed the building a safety hazard, meaning that the building will be taken down in the very near future.

In the meantime, a fence has been placed around where the remnants of the building are, in order to protect the outside population from entering an unstable structure. Spinuzza also contacted local authorities to do drive-bys of the building to ensure no one goes in the building.

“A person from Jamestown that handles these housefires checked it out Tuesday,” Miller said. “Things are moving. I assume it’ll be down soon. I would have liked to have seen it down the next day but the investigation into the fire wasn’t done yet.”

The Brocton Village Board extends thanks to the Brocton Fire Department, as well as the other neighboring departments that came by to assist the fire that occurred at 64 E. Main St. around 8 p.m. Feb. 9.
