Future work on Brocton facility being mulled
BROCTON — Village officials continue to weigh what the next steps will be with the Brocton Volunteer Fire Department building. The state of the Lake Avenue facility is something the board has discussed in the past, as there are areas of the building that are no longer necessary to maintain.
According to village Fire Chief Jim Rizzo, the auditorium space is unnecessary. “The whole auditorium is not needed,” he said. “I’m going to say a half to a quarter of it would be needed for storage.”
Looking at renovating the auditorium, Eric Wies of Clark Patterson Lee said that getting rid of it all together would be a cheaper endeavor than modifying it. “Modifying existing buildings gets very expensive when you have to deal with the asbestos and the lead and all the other regulations,” he said.
Rizzo said the space there for the training rooms, meeting room, kitchen, and offices is essential for the operations of the department. The meeting room has already been remodeled with a new drop ceiling, and dry walled all the way through with a new chief’s office.
While no action was taken by the board, Brocton Mayor Art Miller was satisfied with the report, and Wies left with enough information to report back to the team at CPL on how to proceed with the next steps.
