Parade is back in plans for Grape Fest
HANOVER — Silver Creek’s annual Festival of Grapes dates were announced last week, which came with a notable change there would not be any amusement rides or a parade. According to Hanover town Councilman Lou Pelletter, the parade is now back on the schedule for that weekend.
Pelletter said he spoke with Lisa Romano, the president of the Grape Festival Committee, who said that Michelle Grisanti will be handling the parade. Pelletter said the parade will likely be similar to what Forestville had for their Memorial Day parade.
As part of the Grape Festival activities, Pelletter will also have the historic diner car in the Village of Silver Creek open on Saturday and Sunday, and he will be holding an ice cream social before the grape stomping.
“I also will help them with the parade,” he said. “Whatever we can do to keep it going.”
These changes to the Grape Festival came for many reasons, with a post on the official Festival Facebook page citing lack of volunteers and the inability to find a ride company with availability that weekend.
The post stated that they had increased efforts to enhance other parts of the Festival.
“We have taken on the task of enlarging our entertainment line-up to include free concerts on all three days of our festival, as well as continuing to hold a favorite crowd-pleaser which is our Friday night opening feature and long-standing tradition of our grape stomping event, once again co-sponsored by Silver Creek AMVETS,” the Facebook post stated.
The 55th annual festival will run from Friday, Sept. 16 through Sunday, Sept. 18.
