Fredonia man surrenders after domestic incident

A Fredonia resident surrendered to police after a domestic incident on Monday night.
According to the village Police Department, at approximately 8:15 p.m. officers responded to a residence on Sunset Drive. Upon arrival, officers attempted to investigate the complaint, at which time a male subject displayed a pistol, then returned to his residence and barricaded himself within.
The male also was observed wearing a tactical vest and repeatedly refused officers directions.
The male subject’s residence was secured and area residents were evacuated from their residences, and roadways to the neighborhood were blocked with the assistance of the Dunkirk Police, the University Police, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police.
The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s S.W.A.T Team was called to the scene. At approximately 9:45 p.m., the male surrendered. He was taken to a near-by hospital for evaluation and treatment.
