Jamestown Police hope video will help ID shooter

A man is seen in this image taken from surveillance video aiming a gun at a sport utility vehicle Tuesday in Jamestown. No one was injured.

JAMESTOWN — In a span of just seconds, at least four shots were fired in broad daylight Tuesday in Jamestown.

No one was injured in the brazen shooting, and police are now ramping up efforts to identify the man seen firing at a silver sport utility vehicle occupied by two people.

The Jamestown Police Department on Wednesday released a 20-second video clip taken from surveillance at a nearby church. The video, from about 2:15 p.m., shows a man wearing black clothing running after a vehicle that appears to have backed up from Center Street and then sped off down Chandler Street.

Three shots can be heard, though investigators believe at least four in total were fired at the SUV. Afterward, the man can be seen running down Center Street.

Within moments of the shooting, several officers swarmed the area. A K-9 unit from the Lakewood-Busti Police Department assisted in a general search of the area.

A block away on Crane Street, police located the silver SUV.

“Investigators are following up on several leads and have also recovered several pieces of evidence from this scene that are scheduled to be examined by a forensic lab,” JPD said in a news release. The Jamestown office of the FBI is also assisting in the investigation.

The department hopes releasing the video will lead to information on the shooter’s identity.
