Dunkirk Police were on scene at the Dunkirk Junior and Senior High School for a lock-down alarm activation on Thursday morning around 9:15.

According to the department’s Facebook page, the alarm has been determined to be false. “The Dunkirk High School staff and students did an amazing job implementing their protocol to keep everyone safe,” the post noted. “We are currently investigating the cause of the alarm.”

The building on Sixth Street houses grades seven to 12.

Dunkirk schools, which posted a press release to its Facebook page, said the lockdown lasted 30 minutes, “Students and faculty immediately returned to their regular schedule as soon as the lock-down protocols were lifted,” the district reported, noting no threat was detected to any of the buildings, students, faculty or staff.

Last week, a person deemed suspicious prompted brief lockouts at two Jamestown schools on May 25.

Shortly after noon, a male reportedly wearing dark clothing had been spotted in the area of Jamestown High School. It wasn’t clear who saw the man or where he was in regard to the school grounds.

Emotions are high across the nation regarding school safety due in part to the horrific events that occurred on May 24 in Uvalde, Texas, in which 19 children and two teachers died in a mass shooting.

Starting at $3.50/week.
