SHERIDAN — Sheridan Fire Chief Mitchell Magierski is thankful that no lives were lost in a serious accident involving a pickup and tanker truck.

Around 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, a pickup truck apparently rear-ended an oil field truck on Route 20 in Sheridan, on the bridge that crosses Interstate 90. Volunteers raced to the scene and saw the field truck fully engulfed by flames.

“We got a little bit of water on it and got it out,” Magierski told the OBSERVER and Post-Journal newspapers. “They ended up flying out the driver of the tanker. The driver of the pickup truck, he was up walking around, he was mobile.”

The driver of the semi was transported by helicopter to the hospital for treatment of burn injuries. Magierski did not believe the injuries were life-threatening.

Magierski said before he arrived at the accident scene, an explosion had already occurred. As he was working at the scene, the field truck’s tires began to explode as well.

Within a half an hour of arriving, firefighters were able to extinguish the fire. However, Route 20 remained closed for several hours.
