Marching on: Parade highlights Silver Creek festival

SILVER CREEK — Grape stomping, pie baking and the parade returned for three days at the Festival of Grapes over the weekend.

Diana Carpus, treasurer and member of the organization for over 35 years, shared how events unfolded in downtown Silver Creek.

“Things are going quite well,” Carpus said on Sunday. “People are being very understanding due to the circumstances, but I’m being very hopeful that next year the rides will be back.”

According to Carpus, the organization was unable to obtain a contract with the ride company. The group is already working on that issue for next year.

“We’re hoping to solve that problem early on,” Carpus added.

Events that did commence this year included a remote control demo contest, a kids arts and crafts tent, music, and of course, grape stomping.

The parade featured 26 fire and rescue units and the park housed roughly 12 food vendors and about 25 arts, crafts and trade booths.

Carpus did take time to mention one side note regarding next year’s festivities.

“We may not be doing it the third weekend next year,” Carpus said. “It depends on how the negotiations go, so we may be doing it the fourth weekend instead. It all depends on the contracts being ironed out.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
