Gowanda receives response on pool
GOWANDA — The Gowanda Central School District has finally received a response from the State Education Department regarding the district’s pool project.
After a recent meeting with state department’s facilities representation, the building aid unit calculation review has finally commenced. In the meantime, the state will allow the district to submit for an emergency pool project. Whether the district receives state aid or not, the state Education Department still required approval for the project.
One of the major questions remaining for the district is if it is beneficial to receive state aid for the emergency project, or if the district is better off paying for the emergency project now, then asking for state aid if/when a capital project regarding the pool is approved at a later date.
“We’re working on the question of, ‘Can we do a small emergency project with no state aid, then maybe take that when we do a larger project?’ I don’t have an answer to that question right now, but we are working on it with the people at SED facilities,” Superintendent Robert Anderson said.
On May 17, the district’s architects will meet with the Board of Education to provide updates and discuss how to proceed.
