Sheridan schedules solar project meeting

SHERIDAN — The Town of Sheridan has set a date for its next discussion on a proposed solar energy project in the Town.

On May 30 at the Sheridan Community Center, the Town Board will hold a public meeting to discuss a special use permit, State Environmental Quality Review Act documents, and variance requests for the SunEast Kingbird Solar LLC project, located on Newell Road.

The SunEast Kingbird Solar Project is a 20-megawatt system that represents the largest solar energy project in Sheridan to date. The project spans across Newell Road to Cook Road near I-90. The Town Board previously entertained a presentation from the solar representatives in November of 2022.

The Town Board set the meeting at the future date rather than at a regular Town Board meeting to ensure Town Attorney Jeff Passafaro could be in attendance.

Also of note, at a recent public hearing, the Town approved a local law issuing a six-month moratorium on the construction and maintenance of battery energy storage systems and equipment in the Town. The Town is evaluating guidelines to implement regarding such facilities at the advice of legal counsel.
