FORESTVILLE — Tree lovers from the Forestville community have joined up with Imagine Forestville to plant trees throughout the hamlet, especially in the new Center Pearl Historic District.

Dennis Wilson, Lee Thompson, and Sharon (Shaun) Lord gave generously to the tree fund of Imagine Forestville, enabling the purchase of 30 trees. The group began digging holes on Earth Day. Advance work by Wilson and Thompson prepared the sites for planting, set for Saturday, April 25 at 9 a.m., beginning at the Holmes-Rogers home, 13 Pearl Street, in the heart of the new Center Pearl Historic District.

Three teams from Imagine Forestville were formed to plant the trees to continue the celebration of Earth Day in Forestville. Why would people give so generously to greening a community? The group made it sound so natural.

“I love trees, and Forestville is my town,” said Wilson. Thompson said he has lived here over thirty years and confessed that it was the love of trees that inspired him too. Lord added, “I love to see a village have trees.”

Wilson stated that urban trees survive an average of seven years after planting, if done correctly. Proper training is important. In addition to soil preparation and depth, careful watering will assure healthy trees for years to come.

Quinn and JJ Kaye of Someday Maybe Farms offered up abundant water from their deep well to assure that the significant water needs of the young trees will be met.

The group’s efforts will help Forestville live up to its name, benefiting the community with all the health benefits that trees bring.
