Marsh leaves Fredonia for Westfield post
Andrea Marsh will leave Fredonia on June 12 to accept a position as Secondary School Principal at Westfield Academy.
Often in the field of education, one district’s loss can be another district’s gain. That is the case with an administrator’s recent move from Fredonia to Westfield.
Andrea Marsh has resigned from the role of Fredonia Middle School Assistant Principal to accept the role of Secondary School Principal at Westfield Academy. Marsh will depart from Fredonia on June 12. She takes over in Westfield on June 15. After four years, Marsh becomes eligible for tenure at Westfield.
Superintendent Dr. Brad Zilliox said that Marsh has been “fantastic” in her time at Fredonia. She was hired to the role two years ago in June of 2024. Zilliox said he is happy for Westfield in filling the role with Marsh, but noted that it will be a significant loss to Fredonia.
Zilliox commended Marsh for her “really strong background around literacy”, as well as her abilities as a coach. He also credited her ability to work together with Middle School Principal Jamie Polhamus at Fredonia.
“She will absolutely be missed,” Zilliox said. “… We will make sure to send her out in style, as we typically do in Fredonia.”
While Marsh is leaving Fredonia, a few new faces will soon join the district. Fredonia’s latest appointment is Emma Brown, who will be beginning her teaching career at Fredonia High School this fall. Brown fills a vacancy in the Mathematics department at the high school level following two retirement/resignations this year.
High School Principal Ron Tonelli said the interview committee was very impressed by Brown’s answers during the interview. “She knocked every question out of the park. She hit all of the areas that they really wanted to hear,” Tonelli said. “We were super excited to hear that she accepted this position here with us at Fredonia.”
Brown currently has pending certification in Math Grades 7-12 with an extension for Grades 5-6. Brown also has certification in Computer Science K-12. She is a graduate of Orchard Park High School and the University at Buffalo with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Mathematics and Math Education.
Brown student-taught at Orchard Park, and has also served as a math tutor, an after school program supervisor, a youth recreation director, and a camp counselor. Her time at Fredonia will begin on Aug. 31 with a four-year probationary period before becoming eligible for tenure.
Four per diem substitutes were also recently appointed, including Eileen Love and Sara Sunick as Cleaners, Sophia Noecker as a Teacher Aide, and Isabell Horowitz as a Lifeguard. Aurelia Chudy was approved for fieldwork under the direction of Molly Williams. The Board also granted permanent status to Jeff Kubasik as a Cleaner.
Two contracts with outside agencies were also Board-approved, each pertaining to the district’s 2025-26 Capital Outlay project. For flooring upgrades inside the district buildings, specifically in the Elementary School, GP Flooring will be paid $10,253.57. Outdoors, the district’s softball field will be addressed by Elbers Landscape Service, Inc., at a cost of $61,241. The work includes replacement of home plate, the batters’ box and the pitching rubber, as well as infield ground improvements.
The next Fredonia Board of Education meeting is scheduled for today at 6 p.m. in the High School Library, during the district’s budget vote from 2 to 9 p.m.
