Samuel S. Saletta
Samuel S. Saletta, 94, of Fredonia died Monday morning (March 13, 2017) at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dunkirk following a brief illness.
He was born June 16, 1922 in Laona, the son of the late Anthony and Santa (DiCarlo) Saletta. Mr. Saletta had been employed as a custodian for the Cassadaga School System.
A lifelong resident of Chautauqua County, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the Cassadaga Memorial American Legion Post #1280. He enjoyed spending time with his canine companion, Hooch.
Survivors include one daughter, Carol Steger of Fredonia; one son, Kevin Saletta of Fredonia; three grandchildren, Gwyn Steger, Jeremy Saletta, and Michael Saletta; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rita M. (Meger) Saletta, who died May 21, 2000; brothers, Marvin, Anthony, Horace, Joseph and James; sisters, Antionette, Katherine, Concetta and Frances.
Graveside services were held Monday afternoon at 1 o’clock in Cassadaga Cemetery. Rev. Daniel P. Walsh officiated. Military Honors were accorded by the Cassadaga Memorial American Legion Post #1280. Arrangements were by the McGrawKowal Funeral Home.
