Barbara Rybij Kubera

Barbara Rybij Kubera

Barbara Rybij Kubera, 72, of Dunkirk died Monday evening (Sept. 17, 2018) at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, PA. She was born Nov. 15, 1945 in Dunkirk, the daughter of the late Henry and Mary (Halas) Rybij. A lifelong Dunkirk resident, Barbara was a graduate of Cardinal Mindszenty High School,

Class of 1963. She then attended the Doyle Beauty Academy in Buffalo and earned her license to practice Cosmetology.

Barbara was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Church, where she also served as parish secretary for 23 years. She often remarked that the parishioners of Holy Trinity were her second family. Barb took a great deal of pride in her work there, and she kept a special place in her heart for the wonderful people she met there over her many dedicated years. Barb’s love for the Buffalo Bills and the New York

Yankees was well known. She was a Buffalo Bills season ticket holder for many years and she often said that some of her greatest memories were spending Sunday afternoons at the stadium with her family and friends. In her free time

she enjoyed cooking and baking, and she greatly valued the friendships she was able to maintain with her classmates, as she so loved meeting them for lunches and visiting. Barbara’s greatest joy came from her family, especially doting on her grandchildren. She found incredible happiness in always making sure that even complete strangers knew

how wonderful her grandchildren are, as she never stopped talking about them. She cherished every minute she was able to spend with them, and they will miss their “Grammie”

so very much. Barbara is survived by her devoted companion,

Bill Boyd of Dunkirk, with whom she shared over 25 years of happiness. She is also survived by her three loving children, Marc Kubera of Dunkirk, Marcy (Jeffrey) Marzloff of Cumming, GA, and Matthew Kubera of Dunkirk; eight grandchildren, Matthew, Jacob, Alexis, Ethan, Gage, Sydney, Trevor and McKenna; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Gene Rybij. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated Monday morning at 10 o’clock in Holy Trinity Church. There will be no prior visitation. Burial will be in St. Hedwig’s Cemetery. Arrangements are by the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home.
