Charlie L. Butts Sr.

Charlie L. Butts Sr., 77, of Dunkirk, NY peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home on Saturday afternoon (March 2, 2019) at UPMC Hamot in Erie, PA with his family by his side. He was born June 30, 1941 in Leesburg, Georgia, the son of the late Ed and Alice (Clyde) Butts.Charlie retired from the former Dunkirk Radiator Corp. He was best known for his infectious smile, kind heart, handyman to all who needed his help, member and trustee at the Good Hope Baptist

Church, as well as a musician there for the choir. Charlie was part of the Gospel Group, “The Spiritual Crusaders” of Dunkirk, for many many years. He was married to the love of his life, soulmate Jura (Green) Butts for 57 years and to this wonderful union were blessed with seven children. He leaves precious memories to his wife Jura; five sons, Michael (Michelle) Butts of Hollywood, FL, Charlie Butts Jr.of Sinclairville, Darin Butts of Jamestown, and Chad (Yolanda) Butts and Brandon Butts, both of Dunkirk; beloved grandson whom he raised, Brian Butts of Myrtle Beach, SC; two sisters, Mattie Bell Sheffield and Mary Marie Thomas, both of Dawson, GA; two brothers, Deacon Ernest (Pearl) Butts of Brunswick, GA; and Billy (Jackie) Butts of Buffalo; favorite sister-in-law, Ruby Green of Dunkirk; ten grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, an friends.Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughter, Susan “Pucci” Butts and Bernice Green Warren; one son, Cleveland Butts; his sister, Peona Smith; four brothers, Raymond, Ed Jr., Henry L. Sr. and Johnnie Butts.Calling hours will be held Saturday, March 9, from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at the Good Hope Baptist Church, 215 Eagle Street, Dunkirk which will immediately be followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Willowbrook Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home.
