Thirty years ago — 1989

Local high school football players Ryan Freling of Dunkirk and Ryan Bell of Pine Valley were honored by being placed on the 1989 Western New York All-Academic Team. Each player selected to the team receives a $1,000 scholarship from the NYNEX yellow pages. The All-Academic team was announced at the third annual Football Awards Luncheon held at the Pellamwood House in West Seneca.

Forty years ago — 1979

The American Society for Allied Health Professionals has presented an award for excellence to the medical technology program at Fredonia State University College. Fredonia’s program was the only medical technology program in New York state to be recognized by the society.

Fifty years ago — 1969

Michael J. Quigley of Bennett Road, Dunkirk, a graduate of Fredonia State University College, has been awarded a Regents scholarship for medicine.
