Thirty years ago — 1989

During the Dunkirk Printing Co. Christmas party at the Vineyard Restaurant, H.K. Williams, OBSERVER publisher, announced RosaLee Owen as “Outstanding Employee” and presented her with a certificate and monetary gift. The selection is based on an employee’s contributions to the company and attitude. A 24-year employee and currently a bookkeeper in the accounting department, Mrs. Owen began her association with the OBSERVER in the display advertising department.

Forty years ago — 1979

Student of the Week from the Westfield Central School is Bernadette M. Merchant, 18, of R.D. 1, Mayville, the daughter of Mrs. David Soule. She was sophomore and junior class president and vice president of the senior class. President of the National Honor Society, Bernadette is a member of the girls’ basketball and volleyball teams and lettered in softball. She also participated as an American Field Service exchange student in Peru.

Fifty years ago — 1969

Dr. Robert Rie, professor of German at Fredonia State University College, is the author of a brochure on the new American Copyright bill which has been published by the Dokumentation Publishing House in Munich, Germany.
