Thirty years ago — 1989

Dunkirk Mayor Madylon Kubera handed out certificates of appreciation to the “A” Team from the Collins Correctional Facility. The volunteer work team, which is considered to be the top team in the prison, received the awards for renovating a storage shed at Promenschenkel Stadium and a bathhouse at Point Gratiot over the summer. The team is now at work refurbishing the basement of city hall.

Forty years ago — 1979

Edna Boorady, a native of Dunkirk who was the first woman to direct an overseas mission in the history of the U.S. foreign aid program was sworn in Nov. 30 as director of the Agency for International Development’s Office of Personnel and Management. Miss Boorady began her federal career in the Office of Price Administration 35 years ago.

Fifty years ago — 1969

The proposed reconstruction at Route 60 in Dunkirk was discussed recently in Buffalo by members of the state’s Department of Transportation.
