Thirty years ago — 1990

The father and son duo of Jim Griffin of Perrysburg and Steve Griffin of Gowanda recently bowled the first 700 series of their careers within a six-day span on two different alleys. Steve, who has been bowling for four years and carries a 180 average shot 234-226-262-722 at Forest Lanes for the Jim Mee Pro Shop team in the Olsen Classic League. Jim, a bowler for 30 years, shot 257-274-190-721 at Lucky Lanes. He competes for the First Ward Falcon Club in the Modern Bowlers League.

Forty years ago — 1980

The Cease Commissary bakery, the walk-in retail store for about 300 persons daily, is closing today after nine years of existence. No reason for the decision has been given by its owner, Interstate United Corp. of Chicago. Three sales clerks at the store will lose their jobs. But the plant’s 62 full- and part-time area Interstate employees are not affected by this decision.

Fifty years ago — 1970

John C. Van Scoter and Jack Dean have announced that they have purchased all of the real and personal property of Cockaigne Inc. This includes more than 2,000 acres of land, the name, ski resort and facilities.
