Thirty years ago — 1990

Gerald Tramuta of Dunkirk was recently honored with a surprise 75th birthday party. The celebration was held at the Vineyard Quality Inn, where Charlie Tabone and Joe Alessi, pianist, sang and played “old time tunes.” Mr. Tramuta, former owner of Gerald’s Children Store, had his own six-piece orchestra for many years.

Forty years ago — 1980

The much used auditorium of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Silver Creek was formally dedicated in the memory of Msgr. Edmund J. O’Connor during festivities held on April 8. The dedication ceremony sponsored by the Knights of Columbus honored the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Edmund J. O’Connor, who served as pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel for 47 years.

Fifty years ago — 1970

After 10 years of frustration, the Boston Patriots of the American Football League have found a permanent home. Foxboro, Mass., citizens have voted to approve a plan to construct a 57,000-seat stadium there for the homeless pro football franchise.
