Thirty years ago — 1990

Layne “Lonnie” Hall lives alone in his house on the outskirts of Silver Creek so his driver’s license is his ticket to independence. The license says he is 110. He insists he’s five years younger. Either way, he is New York’s oldest driver, according to the state Department of Motor Vehicles. Mr. Hall has a clean driving record.

Forty years ago — 1980

Three property owners from Seel Acres in Dunkirk are appealing a court decision that permits the construction of an indoor tennis center on Main Street Extension. They are Clarence and Virginia Snyder, Nelson and Daune Palmer, and James and Nancy Gaszynski. The Seel Acres development is just west of the proposed site for the project.

Fifty years ago — 1970

Dunkirk police cars are getting a new look. Two 1970 Buicks going into service this week are gray in color, rather than the traditional black.
