Thirty years ago — 1990
Karlin Danahy, 16, of Gowanda recently visited Washington, D.C., where she attended “Citizenship — Washington Focus,” a week-long course at the National 4-H Center. She was one of 81 teens from across New York state participating in this program. The course is designed to help young people understand the structure and function of government and methods of dealing with today’s issues.
Forty years ago — 1980
Calendar Girl for the Month of July is Laurie J’An Veringa, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerard Veringa, 106 Academy St., Westfield. A senior at Westfield Academy and Central School, she is a member of the WACS girls’ tennis, basketball and softball teams. She was named Sportwriter of the Year from WACS by the weekly Westfield newspaper. A member of the National Honor Society, Laurie will spend the next year abroad as Rotary Exchange Student in Quezon City, Philippines.
Fifty years ago — 1970
Bill Brazil, a former district sales manager for the Cadillac motor car division in the Buffalo area, has assumed the ownership of the former Ken Reimann dealership on Lake Shore Drive West in Dunkirk.
