Retrospective

Thirty years ago — 1990

Fredonia State University College has been ranked 57th in Money magazine’s fall 1990 guide to the 200 best buys in American institutes of higher education. Only two public universities from western New York were on the list. The other, besides Fredonia State, was the University of Buffalo, which ranked 20th. Fredonia State President Donald A. MacPhee was very pleased with the news.

Forty years ago — 1980

Mike Matesevac, owner of Sheridan’s White Star Restaurant, is looking forward to a change in careers after owning and operating the Sheridan landmark for 33 years. Along with his wife, he plans to open an antique business on the site of the White Star.

Fifty years ago — 1970

Loren K. Wood, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson C. Wood, 67 Maple Ave., Fredonia has joined the faculty at Canton State Agricultural and Technical College. He will teach physical education and will be in charge of swimming, track and field and cross country.
