Thirty years ago — 1990
With the recent closing of Dunkirk’s School 7, some other local elementary schools have received inquiries regarding transfer of their children into another school. Three or four inquiries have been made to the Fredonia schools with one School 7 student enrolling at Fredonia Elementary. Many inquiries have been made to St. Hyacinth School in Dunkirk, with a few new students already registered. Northern Chautauqua Catholic School reported no inquiries.
Forty years ago — 1980
Robin Ball, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Burnsworth of Angola, was crowned the 1980 Miss Festival of Grapes. A senior at Lake Shore Central School, Robin was also awarded the Creative and Performing Arts Award. Kara Lynn Hornburg, 7, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Hornburg of Silver Creek, was crowned Little Miss Festival of Grapes.
Fifty years ago — 1970
The new five-building complex at Fredonia State University College has been singled out by Time magazine as representing the best in modern campus architecture. The article: “The Campus: Architecture’s Show Place,” was accompanied by a color picture of Reed Library and its plaza and McEwen Hall, a new classroom/ lecture building.
