Thirty years ago — 1991

The makers of Sudafed 12 Hour capsules pulled the popular cold medication off store shelves across the nation as federal authorities investigated two deaths and an injury involving cyanide-laced capsules. The poisonings, which took place in the Tacoma, Wash., and Olympia, Wash., areas, has lead to the recall of about a million packages thus far.

Forty years ago — 1981

Lorrie A. Simpson, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Simpson of 16 Bird St., Westfield has been named Student of the Week at Westfield Academy and Central School. She is a member of the National Honor Society, served as junior editor and is presently editor of the school yearbook. Her future plans include attending the Lawrence Institute of Technology in Southfield, Mich., majoring in architecture.

Fifty years ago — 1971

Don Reinhoudt of Fredonia continues his “midas touch” as he won first place at the Erie Powerlifting Championships.
