Thirty years ago — 1991

The official groundbreaking for the new Burger King Restaurant to be located on Routes 5 and 20 in Irving was held recently. The new fast food establishment is owned by Bill O’Donnell. If weather permits, the restaurant may be opened for business by the Memorial Day weekend in May.

Forty years ago — 1981

The Dunkirk Historical Society recently honored Louis S. VanWey, organizer of the society and its first president. Mr. VanWey, who organized the society seven years ago and has served as president since that time, was named to serve as “President Emeritus.” He was presented with an engraved plaque that read, “In appreciation of your untiring and devoted service as first president of the Historical Society of Dunkirk, N.Y. 1973-1980.”

Fifty years ago — 1971

Harbor Vue Cable TV plans to open its office in Dunkirk on April 1. The new office will be located at 57 Lake Shore Drive West.
