Thirty years ago — 1991

Student of the Week is Connie Zirkle, an 18-year-old senior at Brocton Central School and the daughter of Marvin and Joyce Zirkle of Lake Avenue, Brocton. Editor-in-chief of the Brocton Review, Connie is a member of National Honor Society, Students Against Drunk Driving, Spanish Club, Chorus and Drama Club. She has played high school volleyball, basketball and tennis, receiving many awards. Her future plans include attending college to pursue a career in secondary math education.

Forty years ago — 1981

Pet of the Week is “Thumper,” a beautiful white rabbit that came to Silver Creek via the 1980 Chautauqua County Fair. Thumper (then a bunny) was a prize won by Terry Strong for his 2-year-old daughter, Jamie Lynne. According to the Strongs Jamie and Thumper, who stays around the yard just like a dog, are fast friends.

Fifty years ago — 1971

Charley’s Old Timers AA-league basketball team won the city of Dunkirk’s recreation department title for the 1970-71 season. Team members include Al Andre, Joe Ketcham, Bill and Tom Hammond, George McClenathan, Greg Prechtl, Jeff Wallace and Joe Williams.
