Thirty years ago — 1991

The former Goldome Bank branch office at 51 East Fourth St., Dunkirk closed unexpectedly at 3 p.m. on May 31 and reopened the morning of June 1 as a branch of Key Bank. The overnight transformation came after Goldome was seized by federal regulators, with the Dunkirk branch along with 31 others being sold to Key Bank.

Forty years ago — 1981

Joseph Porpiglia, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Porpiglia of Main Street, Dunkirk, was graduated from Wadhams Hall Seminary College of Ogdensburg on May 16. After a summer vacation at home, Mr. Porpiglia will continue his studies at Christ the King Seminary in East Aurora. Among those attending the graduation was his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Joseph Porpiglia, who celebrated her 81st birthday with a cake presented by the seminarians.

Fifty years ago – 1971

The doors of Krolls Shoe Store at 317 Main St., Dunkirk closed for good on June 3. F. Fred Kroll, owner, has retired after 51 years of selling shoes.
