Thirty years ago — 1991

Brent Vogel, age 8,was the proud winner in Kirk’s Jewelers “Greatest Mother Contest” held last month. Brent’s 50-word essay on why his mother was the “greatest” was judged to be the best of the many entries received. The youngster presented a $300 diamond pendant to his mother, Mary Sue Vogel.

Forty years ago –1981

Sheila Meck Hyde has been awarded the doctor of jurisprudence degree magna cum laude from the University of Buffalo School of Law. While in law school, Mrs. Hyde was awarded the Henry W. Box award as outstanding law student. Salutatorian of the Class of 1974 at Silver Creek Central School, she is a summa cum laude graduate of Fredonia State University College.

Fifty years ago — 1971

William Larson, owner and manager of Larson Memorial Chapel, Central Avenue, Fredonia has been elected treasurer of the New York State Funeral Directors Association.
