Thirty years ago — 1991

Harry G. Smith of Gowanda has been an active member of the Gowanda Volunteer Fire Department for 70 consecutive years and continues to serve at the fire hall’s base radio station during emergency response calls. He was honored recently for his dedicated service, having joined the Gowanda Fire Department on May 20, 1921 as a member of the E.C. Fisher Company No. 2.

Fredonia State University College has exceeded its admissions goal for new freshmen and has directed SUNY not to process additional applications for

Fredonia. More than 7,000 applications for Fredonia State were received for the coming year, the sixth largest in over 100 years of the college’s operation.

Barbara Fessenden, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Fessenden of Cassadaga, has been selected as Calendar Girl of the Month from Cassadaga Valley Central School where she is a junior.
