Thirty years ago — 1991

Deborah J. Sheedy of Dunkirk High School was presented the Robert F. Lucas Most Outstanding Lieutenant Governor’s Award at the International Key Club Convention held in Chicago recently. Miss Sheedy was a prominent leader in the Dunkirk Kiwanis Key Club at DHS, serving as secretary, president and also as lieutenant governor of the Southwestern District of New York State. Last spring, she was honored as the top lieutenant governor in New York State. She will attend St. Mary’s College of Notre Dame in the fall, majoring in foreign languages.

Forty years ago — 1981

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Comello Jr. of East Green Street, Dunkirk are extremely proud of their son, Tom III, who recently rolled a 298 in league play at Celebrity Lanes in Denver, Colo., his place of employment. His three-game score was an impressive 799. According to Mrs. Comello, “Bowling is his love and the 298 was a real high for him.”

Fifty years ago — 1971

The new children’s room, formerly the weekly meeting room of the Women’s Literary Club, has opened on the lower level of the Dunkirk Free Library.
