Thirty years ago — 1991

Add some more anxiety this fall to the experience of registering for classes at the State University of New York. Budget woes have forced the cancellation of many class sections, making students scramble to meet course requirements if they want to graduate on time. In addition, SUNY officials say at least 14 degree programs will be eliminated across the system.

Forty years ago — 1981

Actress Marsha Mason (Mrs. Neil Simon in real life) will make a rare television appearance in a new two-hour motion picture for television, “Lois Gibbs and the Love Canal. The movie tells the story of housewife turned activist Lois Gibbs who spearheaded a fight to have families in the Love Canal area relocated by the government after toxic chemical pollution was discovered in that section of Niagara Falls, N.Y.

Fifty years ago — 1971

Dr. Kenneth E. Mantai has received an appointment as an assistant professor in the biology department at Fredonia State University College.
