Thirty years ago — 1991

The Dunkirk Ice Cream Company has begun a $6 million expansion of its Dunkirk plant, which is expected to create between 30 and 60 new jobs. The company has completed negotiations to purchase the assets of a competitive ice cream company and to move those facilities to Dunkirk. The company plans to build a 20,000 square foot addition to its plant on the Main Street side of the complex and expects to have 12 new production lines it has just purchased in operation within two years.

Forty years ago — 1981

Apple pie took top honors in the Fredonia Farm Festival’s pie baking contest. Karen Bandla of Fredonia won first place and $30 in the adult division while Debbie Sinare of Fredonia took top honors and a $10 prize in the young adult department. Second and third place adult winners were Mrs. Charles Johnson and Mary Jane Dankert, both of Fredonia. Young adult runnerups were Tammy Wood, Julie Ann Chimera and Kelly Pollock, all of Fredonia.

Fifty years ago — 1971

Two hundred soldiers and friends of the Salvation Army Corps in Dunkirk gathered at the Citadel to say farewell to Capt. and Mrs. Daniel J. Miles and Dan J. Miles Jr. The family, who resided in Sheridan, will assume new duties in Batavia.
