Thirty years ago — 1991

Factory Sleep Shop recently celebrated the grand opening of its new Fredonia location at 112 West Main St., Fredonia (inside the Pucci Building). The owner is Jim Pachioli with Marion Kane as store manager. A grand opening prize of dinner for two at The White Inn, Fredonia was won by Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Klonsky of Fredonia.

Forty years ago — 1981

A front page photo shows huge floating cranes lifting the last sections of steel beams into place to complete the linkup of the two ends of the Route 17 Southern Tier Expressway Chautauqua Lake Bridge between Stow and Bemus Point. The $54 million structure, according to state engineers, is about two-thirds complete. The bridge and the last, westernmost section of the Expressway are due for opening in 1984.

Fifty years ago — 1971

Major Gordon W. Thompson has retired from the Air Force after 25 years of service. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon W. Thompson, 4600 West Lake Road, Dunkirk.
