Thirty years ago – 1991

For 39 years, a cookie village has been a popular Christmas tradition at the Ebert home in Hamlet. This year, the village was made by Marjorie Ebert, her husband Howard and their daughter, Bonnie Gabel of Gowanda. After the cookie dough is made, the house, church, manger, fence and trees are cut from patterns, baked, glued with hot “sugar glue’ and frosted. The whole process takes about two days.

Forty years ago — 1981

The Chautauqua County Legislature is being asked to name the county’s branch office building at 100 Lucas Ave., Dunkirk in honor of the late Anthony J. DiRusso, a county legislator from Dunkirk. Mr. DiRusso served first as a supervisor and then as a county legislator from the town and city of Dunkirk from December 1969 until his death on Jan. 16, 1981.

Fifty years ago — 1971

Merritt T. Moore of Silver Creek has been elected to a three-year term as a director from the Silver Creek-Perrysburg area of the National Grape Co-operative Association.
