Thirty years ago – 1991

Winners in the recent Pizza Village Halloween Coloring Contest include Casey Lockett and Jessica Kubasik, both of Dunkirk. Both winners received a pizza party for themselves and a group of their friends. Pizza Village is located at 71 Lake Shore Drive West. The restaurant manager is Gail Drummond.

Forty years ago — 1981

Clare Schuster of Fredonia High School has been chosen OBSERVER girl swimmer of the year. Girls swimming coach Ann LaDuca said, “Good is never enough for Clare. She’s got to be the best. She pushes everyone else to do their best too.” Clare has been county champion for four years and for three in the individual medley. She holds a 3.4 scholastic average.

Fifty years ago — 1971

The Naval Reserve Division 3-20(s) in Dunkirk has been presentedwith the Admiral S.C. Hooper Trophy, a national award for excellence among small surface units.
