Thirty years ago — 1991

In an OBSERVER photo, Minnie Civilette shows 3-year-old Jillian Petrella how to mix batter for applesauce muffins. Baking day is one of the many activities planned in “intergenerational” programming at the Lake Shore Health Care Center in Irving. Young children from the Lake Shore Day Care Center as well as pre-schoolers at the Anderson-Lee Library often mix with the elderly in special programs which are rewarding to both.

Forty years ago — 1981

Student of the Week is Vicki Rathman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Rathman of Chautauqua Road, and a senior at Brocton Central School. Vicki has been an elementary teacher’s aide for six years and a member of the school chorus, Future Homemakers of America, and prom and senior play committees. She plans to work for a year after graduation and then attend college to study business.

Fifty years ago — 1971

Mrs. Richard W. Millar Sr. has been unanimously elected to her third term as president of the Lake Shore Hospital Auxiliary.

Fred Boast has been named Dunkirk’s next city clerk by mayor-elect Clem Lutz.
