Attention Kmart shoppers! That could be a familiar sound if preliminary plans for a new Kmart store at the corner of Route 60 and Vineyard Drive pan out. It was confirmed through the Kmart headquarters in Troy, Mich., that the chain is looking in the Dunkirk area. According to a spokesman, “Nothing has been finalized. We look at sites all over the country — no decisions have been made.”

The Knights of St. John Commandery No. 90 recently presented the Dunkirk Historical Society a display of articles made from marble salvaged from the former Sacred Heart Church. The 42 square foot display has an upper portion of shelves that displays three marble plaques, two framed pictures and one framed document. The central theme is a reconstruction of the marble tabernacle area of the altar originally donated to the church by the Dotterweich family in 1876, when the church was erected.
